My First Onam Celebration in B.Ed College

Our first Onam celebration in B.Ed college was a day filled with colors, joy, and togetherness. We all reached the college by 8:30 in the morning, brimming with excitement. The entire campus was alive with festive energy, and everyone had a smile that spoke of the warmth and spirit of Onam.

Our college representatives had brought a beautiful collection of fresh flowers for making the Onam Pookkalam, the traditional floral carpet that symbolizes prosperity and unity. We, along with our teachers, joined hands to pluck and arrange the flowers. The fragrance of the blooms filled the air as petals slowly took shape into a vibrant Pookkalam at the heart of our campus. It was truly a collective effort that reflected teamwork and creativity.

Our classmate Abhinav had become the maveli. The day before, we had set up a charming Oonjal (swing), decorated with flowers and ribbons. Taking turns on the swing with my friends was pure joy laughter echoed all around as we captured those moments in our hearts forever. It reminded us of the simple pleasures that make festivals so special.

Soon after, it was time for the most awaited part of the celebration Thiruvathira, the graceful traditional dance of Kerala. We had been practicing for days, and finally performing it together felt magical. Dancing in rhythm with my friends, dressed in traditional attire, surrounded by cheerful faces, was an unforgettable experience. The synchronized steps and the soulful music truly brought the festive spirit alive.

After the performances, we gathered for the grand Onam Sadhya, the traditional feast served on banana leaves. The flavors, aroma, and variety of dishes were delightful every bite felt like a celebration of Kerala’s rich culture and heritage.

As the day came to an end, we looked back with hearts full of happiness. It was more than just a celebration; it was a day of bonding, laughter, and cherished memories.

My first Onam in B.Ed college will always remain a beautiful chapter in my college life a day that reminded us all of the beauty of unity, tradition, and joy.
